It takes courage

When I read this poem below a moment ago, it reflects exactly how I feel most of the times and I realize I did not take courage in most of the things I do. I did not know how to. And probably it’s much easier not to. So today I share with you all a poem I found in a friend’s blog, and I already asked her permission to use this in my blog, although it’s “author unknown” in this case.

It takes courage

Author unknown

It takes courage
To refrain from gossip
When others delight in it,
To stand up for the absent person
Who is being abused.

It takes courage
To live honestly
Within your means,
And not dishonestly
On the means of others.

It takes courage
To be a REAL man or a TRUE woman,
To hold fast to your ideals
When it causes you
To be looked upon
As strange and peculiar.

It takes courage
To be talked about,
And remain silent,
When a word would justify you
In the eyes of others,
But which you dare not speak
Because it would injure another.

It takes courage
To refuse to do something
That is wrong
Although everyone else
May be doing it
With attitudes as carefree
As a summer song.

It takes courage
To live according
To your own convictions,
To deny yourself
What you cannot afford.
To love your neighbor
As yourself!

It’s not easy to deny material wants, and it’s nothing wrong to want something for ourselves, after such a hard day’s work. Maybe I was built in a different way. I deny myself the things I wanted and forget I even wanted it at the first place. Sometimes the feeling resurfaces, sometimes I pitied myself for not able to have the things I wanted, but most of the times I could survive without those things. The only thing I could not survive with is the thoughts of not fulfilling my dreams. Age does a great thing to you, it reminds you that you had less one year to do what you need to do in this life.

What about you? Have you really give some thoughts on this one huge dream of yours that you could only fulfill it once in your life? That if your dream becomes a reality, there’s no longer having the lingering wants or the search of life’s purposes? For me, I would had lived my life purpose if my dream plan comes true. I just hope I did not sidetrack from it.
